Dogs are still undoubtedly man’s best friend. There are millions of people across the world that would wholeheartedly agree with this statement, but there are also many that would not agree. Of those that disagree with the statement, many are not dog lovers and will never be, it is as simple as that. There are however those for which this statement could become true if they has simply take their dogs to puppy training of whatever form when they were still in the cute, adorable, lovable stage.
When puppies are small they are so cute and often a fantastic new experience for the owner. The result of this is that anything goes and the new puppy has the reign of the house and gets all the attention and love. No thought is given to attending puppy training classes, because what could go wrong? It is only when the novelty wears off that the problems start. The puppy is now suddenly expected to behave differently, but none of the family members is likely to be an expert in training puppies. The result is chaos, uncertainty on both the puppy and owner’s side and the best bond that could exist between a dog and its owner never materializes. What a pity!
When I was recently married and started with a family, my mother in law was horrified when I made the statement that bringing up kids is the same as training puppies – the basic principles of love and consistency of behavior and reactions apply. With my kids now grown up, I still maintain that this view is true. Ultimately, dogs are pack animals, and the group or family rules and behaviors that apply to humans can also to a large degree be taught to dogs.
Puppy training can be done at home by the owner or, if the owner is not sure of how to go about doing for instance puppy toilet training, professional puppy training classes are available in most parts of the world. The logical start of puppy training begins with the basic principles of housebreaking the puppy and teaching them that biting is not allowed, coupled with rudimentary obedience training. Some puppy training schools train all breeds in combined groups, whilst others would specialize on specific breeds resulting in for instance Labrador puppy training schools or beagle puppy training schools. I don’t believe that either school of thought is better than the other, although it is true that each breed has its very specific characteristics and behavior patterns.
